Tour of the CCI construction site
On Monday, May 15, our second-year BUT2 students in the BEC (Design and Engineering Office) track of the Civil Engineering – Sustainable Construction department had the opportunity to visit a construction site. These buildings, with a construction cost of €12 million (excluding tax) and a total investment cost of nearly €20 million (including tax), are certified BDO Gold (Bâtiments Durables Occitanie) and NoWatt certification, will house a new Chamber of Commerce and Industry (CCI), a campus with a lecture hall, coworking spaces, and the Union pour l’Entreprise du Gard, all on a single site.
Thanks to the clear and precise explanations provided by Aurélien DONNENWIRTH, Project Manager at BPTEC, our students were able to understand the organization of the construction site as well as the detailed planning across all trades for such a project. Next, Jean-Guillaume ALTEIRAC, Site Manager at SOGEA Vinci, presented Vinci’s development of low- and very low-carbon concrete, including its application constraints and environmental benefits, the construction of architectural concrete walls, and finally, he gave us a brief guided tour of the ongoing construction site.
It was a very short but intense hour for our students, yet highly enriching. We look forward to returning for further visits, first on June 5 and then on June 26 with two other groups of students, allowing us to follow the progress of this major construction project in Nîmes.
We would like to once again thank the CCI, UPE30, SAT, the entire project management team—and particularly BPTEC—as well as the structural engineering firm SOGEA Vinci for making these visits possible, which are a valuable part of our students’ educational journey.
