GEII Department Projects

Electric tractor

The electric tractor designed by the Independent Winegrowers of Gard was unveiled on Tuesday, November 28, 2017, at SITEVI—the International Trade Show for Equipment and Expertise in Vine, Wine, Olive, Fruit, and Vegetable Production—at the Montpellier Exhibition Center.

This project came about thanks to an agreement between the Federation of Independent Winegrowers of Gard, the Gard Department, the École des Mines d’Alès, and the Department of Electrical Engineering and Industrial Computer Science at the IUT de Nîmes. In fact, 12 students from the DUT and the Professional Bachelor’s Degree in Renewable Energy Management and Utilization have spent the past three years working primarily on the battery racks, the control unit, the charger, and the electric steering system.

Electric car (PGO project) developed in collaboration with the École des Mines d’Alès

The GEII department partnered with the École des Mines d’Alès, the CFA d’Alès, and the automaker PGO to develop an all-electric car from the ground up. The vehicle was exhibited at the Paris Motor Show in October 2012.

robotics project

The GEII department works on robots (including sumo robots and line-following robots) and participates in several competitions, notably the IUT Robotics Tournament and the National Sumo Robot Tournament.

Robusta nanosatellite

Students from the department participated in France's first university satellite project. The satellite was launched into orbit in February 2012 from the Kourou Space Center (French Guiana).

electric karting project

This project has been underway at the IUT for several years now; students are working on two kart chassis and refining them year after year in order to compete in the annual e-Kart challenge

full-scale smart home

A 1:1-scale smart home was developed by the GEII department in partnership with the Civil Engineering department at the IUT in Nîmes. This home has been fully automated.
