SGM Department Projects

The Final Year Project gives you the opportunity to work with a company, thanks to a specific and unique organizational structure.

An organized student team

Students are divided into groups of 4 or 5 and work together throughout the year. A 4-hour time slot is set aside each week for the entire year.

Innovative and industry-related topics

All projects involve an industry partner. The industry partner reviews the project milestones with the students.

An innovative management approach

The management approach is innovative and focused on empowering students. The faculty advisor is selected specifically so that they are not an expert in the project’s field. It is therefore up to the students to find and select the experts who will be able to assist them. The faculty advisor ensures that the schedule is followed and verifies that there are no financial or technical deviations from the objectives outlined in the project specifications.

Experts available

The teaching staff (tenured faculty, industry professionals, and adjunct instructors), drawing on its diversity, provides essential technical support to students.

Final Defense

The students present their results to the entire department: a little nerve-wracking, but the culmination of a year’s hard work!

Sample topics

  • Optimization of composite parts for sports (boating, steppers, motorsports, mountain sports, etc.)
  • Design of a new material using recycled materials or bio-based polymers and natural fibers,
  • Design of an electric bodyboard, or a container for an Anduze vase,
  • Characterization and optimization of an anti-graffiti surface,
  • Search for a process to stabilize mammoth wood and bone for Laguiole knife handles,
  • Soil quality study for a manufacturer of Anduze vases
  • Study of Bonding on Structural Composites for Airbus Helicopters
  • Design of an infrared testing station for composite parts (non-destructive testing)
