TEACHING POSITIONS

SPEAKERS
In accordance with the provisions of the amended decree of October 29, 1987, there are two categories of temporary staff in higher education: CEV and ATV

Adjunct instructors (CEV)
- Regulations :
- They are defined in Article 2 of Decree No. 87-889 of October 27, 1987, as amended, as: “individuals selected for their expertise in scientific, cultural, or professional fields who, in addition to their teaching duties, engage in a primary professional activity…”.
- Given the occasional nature of teaching work and to avoid placing part-time instructors in a precarious professional and financial situation, part-time teaching may under no circumstances be undertaken as a primary occupation.
- The different categories of CEV
- Employees currently working in the private sector: You must provide proof of at least 900 hours of work per year for the same employer.
- To do this, you must include a copy of your most recent pay stub and a statement from your primary employer confirming the 900 hours
- (Limit set at 187 hours of seminar-equivalent instruction for all components of the academic unit per academic year)
- Self-employed individuals, independent professionals, and active sole proprietors: you must be subject to
- the Territorial Economic Contribution (CET)
- or the Business Property Tax (CFE)
- or provide proof of sufficient and regular income from this activity over the past three years (minimum threshold of €8,134 per year) – taxed under the Industrial and Commercial Profits (BIC) regime or the Non-Commercial Profits (BNC) regime.
- Current business executive: You must provide proof of your status as CEO, Managing Director, or Co-Managing Director (Kbis extract issued within the last 6 months).
- (Limit set at 187 hours of seminar-equivalent instruction for all components of the academic unit per academic year)
- Staff at the University of Montpellier (UM):
- Permanent or contract administrative staff may take on teaching assignments outside of working hours or during a period of leave, provided they submit a declaration of secondary employment, which must be renewed annually.
- The authorization for concurrent enrollment specifies the number of hours equivalent to a tutorial
- Tenured civil servant (non-UM):
- You must demonstrate that you have worked at least 900 hours per year for the same employer and obtain authorization to engage in secondary employment for the current academic year.
- To do this, you must include a copy of your most recent pay stub and a statement from your primary employer confirming the 900 hours
- For higher education staff, the declaration of concurrent employment must also be submitted
- The authorization for concurrent enrollment specifies the number of hours equivalent to a tutorial
- Non-tenured civil servant outside the UM
- You must demonstrate that you have worked at least 900 hours per year for the same employer and obtain authorization to engage in secondary employment for the current academic year.
- To do this, you must include a copy of your most recent pay stub and a statement from your primary employer confirming the 900 hours
- For higher education staff, the declaration of concurrent employment must also be submitted.
- The authorization for concurrent enrollment specifies the number of hours equivalent to tutorial sessions, without exceeding the limit of 187 hours equivalent to tutorial sessions
- Employees currently working in the private sector: You must provide proof of at least 900 hours of work per year for the same employer.
Temporary Workers (ATV)
- Regulations :
- Temporary workers are defined inArticle 3 of Decree No. 87-889 of October 29, 1987.
- These are graduate students or individuals not subject to the age limit for civil service who are receiving a retirement pension, an early retirement allowance, or are on end-of-service leave, provided that, at the time of leaving their position, they were engaged in a primary professional activity outside the institution.
- The different categories of ATVs
- A student pursuing a graduate degree
- You must provide a proof of enrollment
- Not be covered by a doctoral contract or other employment contract
- Contractual doctoral students must apply in the “Contractual Doctoral Student” category Decree No. 2016-1173 of August 29, 2016, amending Decree No. 2009-464 of April 23, 2009, regarding doctoral students on contract at public higher education or research institutions
- The limit is set at 96 hours of lectures or 144 hours of lab work across all components of the course unit per academic year
- No lecture
- Retired :
- Receiving a retirement pension and having been engaged in a primary occupation outside the University of Montpellier at the time of leaving the university
- The limit is set at 96 hours of lectures or 144 hours of lab work across all components of the course unit per academic year
- No lecture
- Age limit
- A student pursuing a graduate degree

Compensation
- This compensation does not entitle the recipient to unemployment benefits or a pension: it is not a salary but rather an “allowance for supplementary instruction”—Article 2 of the decree of December 23, 1983.
- All hours are compensated as TD equivalent hours.
- The gross hourly rate is €43.50.
